Simply Stylist Dubai 2017

Yesterday, I participated in Simply (Dubai), an international fashion and beauty conference, as a speaker on the bloggers panel! We chatted a bit about our lifestyles and how we began blogging, offered some advice to any up-and-comers and discussed some of the challenges we faced while developing our own personal brands.

This gave me the chance to reflect on my blogging/social media journey from over the past two years. For me personally, it has been difficult to “find myself” in a market that is so oversaturated, which is partially why I chose to share more aviation and travel related photos when I first began. This as opposed to fashion, beauty etc. At the time, there weren’t a lot of people doing what I was doing, but now a lot of my colleagues have begun to start similar projects.

Moving forward, I want to share more lifestyle content with you guys. I love collaborating with like-minded individuals and am looking forward to seeing what’s next!

The event itself was wonderful. I learned a lot from the other speakers, including those on my panel: Kat Lebrasse, The Sand Gypsy, My Fash Diary, Chic Flavours and Desert Vogue!

Interestingly enough, Kat was also a flight attendant! She went on to create Lebrasse.com, a creative outlet to document what she loves most: life, travel, beauty, health, style and fashion. I enjoyed hearing how she managed to transition from international jet-setter to social media/fashion mogul. Talk about career goals!

Other speakers at the event included: Catt Sadler from E! News, international blogger Jacey Duprie, fashion blogger Karen Wazen and many more.

That being said, I have to thank Simply and the Azdef team for letting me be a part of things, as well as Deborah Henning for styling me, Ashton for doing my makeup and the lovely ladies I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. I also want to thank my girls Brigitta, MJ and DeeDee for cheering me on in the audience, and of course, all of YOU for following me on this crazy journey. Good things happen when you surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. I’m blessed to call these girls my friends and to have all of your support!

In case you weren’t able to attend, you can check out my friend MJ’s Youtube Channel. She vlogged about the conference, and gives you a behind the scenes look at what the day was like.

Facecard Crystal Ball 2017

This year, I attended the Face (Flight Attendant Club of Emirates) Crystal Ball. Described as the “prom” of Emirates, it gives Cabin Crew and management the opportunity to get all dolled up and enjoy a an evening of elegance, dancing, dinner and entertainment.

Fortunately for my group of friends, Beautiful People of Dubai gave us the full VIP experience. We were treated to a limo ride to the venue, joined by our own videographer and photographer to capture the occasion (more images and video to come). Lyze and I were also spoiled by Blow Out Bar, as they styled our hair for the evening.

It was a great night, but unfortunately it was cut short for me because I had an early morning departure to Bahrain! #CrewLife

Layover Life: Casablanca, Morocco

This week I got to visit my 44th country- Casablanca, Morocco! I also got to fly with a friend, which made my layover that much more enjoyable.

We arrived in the late afternoon, and agreed to meet the crew for dinner. With only a few hours to spare before our evening engagement, we decided to have a Moroccan bath; a traditional cleansing ritual of Moroccans, also referred to as Hammam Maghrebi.

Hammam is done to clean and soften the skin as well as to relax tired nerves and muscles while enhancing the blood circulation of the body. It was my first time trying it out, and I must say that it was quite the experience!

We really wanted to try Moroccan style food too, and ended up at local restaurant Basmane by recommendation of two local crew. It was delicious and the live entertainment made for a great night!

Our wakeup call was fairly early the next day, so I didn’t get the chance to do much before I left the next day. That just means I’ll have to come back again!

Layover Life: Johannesburg, South Africa

When a colleague sent me a swap request offering me Johannesburg, South Africa in exchange for a London, United Kingdom flight, I couldn’t say no! Having done three UK flights this past month, I really wanted a change of scenery and that is exactly what I got!

A friend of mine was kind enough to take me around the city, showing me places that very few Cabin Crew have visited. I’ve been to Joburg five times, and have never really seen it from a local’s perspective.

We started the day at a cute little area called 1 Fox Street or “The Sheds”. Located in Ferreirastown, the area is composed of historic warehouses that have been refurbished to make an urban marketplace. Here you can find food and produce, as well as shops, eateries and bars.

From there, we ventured to Arts on Main; a creative hub, consisting of studios, galleries, eateries and retail spaces. While there was plenty of food vendors to choose from, we decided to have lunch at a restaurant called Canteen. For the first time, I tried biltong; a traditional South African food made of dried beef marinated with rock salt, pepper, coarsely ground coriander and vinegar. I also tried chicken liver and Springbok carpaccio! There’s always a first time for everything right?

We ended our afternoon walking around Maboneng; the heart of Joburg. There, we checked out some more local street vendors and watched some South African street performers.

While on our way back to our vehicle, we were stopped by some locals and invited to an exclusive Lipton Ice Tea event. As random as that was, it was held at a place called Living Room Jozi which gave us an unreal view of the city.

As amazing as the day was, I had to operate the flight back to Dubai in the evening with no rest! It was totally worth it though.
