Layover Life: Phuket, Thailand

This week, a had what I like to call a mini-vacation; a 24 hour layover in Phuket, Thailand! It was my first time visiting, and with all the tips you guys gave me I had a hard time deciding what to do.

Our flight arrived in the late evening, so some of us opted to head to the city (Patong) right away for dinner and drinks. We ended up on Bangla Road; the most famous Hot Street in Patong. There are tons of bars and restaurants here that choosing the right place was difficult. We ended up at an authentic Thai joint called Ps. Restaurant based on a crew’s recommendation, and it was delicious!

The following day, my friend Chloe arrived in the morning. As much as I wanted to explore the island, we didn’t have much time and we both really needed to rest. We spent the entire day poolside catching up with one another, eating Thai food and of course, taking millions of photos …because that’s what friends do, right?!

Afterwards, I went back to my room to capture the sunset off my balcony. You can catch the full video on my YouTube channel. Remember to subscribe and give your favourite videos a thumbs up! 🙂

I sound like a broken record when I say there is a lot to do here, but I will definitely be back on my off days sometime soon to check out the excursions and tours available.

Layover Life: Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand is always a great place to visit. There are so many things to do here, that each time I come by I get up to something different!

Originally I was supposed to operate the direct flight, but I ended up swapping with a colleague and did the BKK-HKG-BKK flight instead. This means that from Dubai, United Arab Emirates I flew to Bangkok, Thailand and received a 24 hour layover. After this rest, I operated a ‘turnaround’ flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong, China. This means that on this same day, I returned to BKK and had another 24 hour layover before flying back to Dubai.

On our first day in Thailand, some of the crew and I hit up MBK Shopping Mall. They have everything you can imagine from affordable bags, clothing, makeup and accessories to food and electronics. On the second day we returned to MBK, but not before we stopped at a place called the Unicorn Café. The crew have been talking about this place a lot recently; I just had to check it out for myself!

Unfortunately, it was very busy so we didn’t get to stay long. I wasn’t able to try the food either because of the lack of seating, but I did grab a cotton candy flavoured beverage on my way out. I can’t say it tasted very good, but hey, at least my pictures turned out alright?! For those of you who haven’t heard of it, everything in the café is unicorn themed; from the food to the décor. You can even wear a unicorn onesie while you eat!

If you haven’t been to Bangkok, Thailand, be sure to check out my latest YouTube video and ride with me through the streets on a tuk tuk! Remember to subscribe to my channel while you’re at it! 🙂

Layover Life: Luanda, Angola

Don’t swap your Madrid flight, they said. You’re crazy if you do, they said. Of course, I tend not to listen. I always do the opposite of what I’m told and I usually end up paying for it. This time was no different, but I will say this; my experience in Angola was worth it, even if I did end up with a massive bruise on my thigh, my knee and my ego.

We landed into LAD in the evening, and of course, the crew were eager to meet for dinner and drinks. There isn’t much to do in Angola (according to my colleagues on board), but we made the most of our evening and enjoyed each other’s company.

The following morning, a few of us met for breakfast and decided to walk around the city. We couldn’t go too far because of our early wake-up call, but we were eager to get out of the hotel for awhile. We walked along the waterfront, spoke to a few locals and wandered back to the hotel within a few hours time.

The most exciting part, however, came at my own expense. As we were walking back towards the hotel, I began to record on my GoPro. The second I hit the appropriate button, I felt the ground underneath me collapse. A covered manhole had given way under my weight, and I had fallen into it. Thankfully it wasn’t more than 2 metres deep and just as quickly as it had happened, the only male crew that was with us scooped me out.

Although I can laugh now, the whole ordeal was rather scary. I’m fortunate to have walked away with minor injuries and without broken bones. Lesson learned- watch where you are going and don’t step on anything that isn’t a concrete sidewalk?!

You can catch the whole ordeal on my YouTube channel! Remember to subscribe and give the video a thumbs up! 🙂
