Wednesday, April 28, 2021: Kelsey Johnson will represent Canada at Miss Charm 2021, taking place in Ho Ci Minh City, Vietnam on October 11, 2021. Her crowning comes after having placed in the top 10 at Miss Universe Canada in October of last year.
The first edition of the Miss Charm pageant is anticipated to be held over a period of 15 days and will welcome 40-50 beauty queens from all corners of the globe at the LOTTE Legend Hotel Saigon. Each contestant will have the chance to unleash their true potential and grab the attention of the world’s beauty contest enthusiasts by facing selections based on their scores from interviews, activities, and preliminary rounds.
“Miss Charm is an amazing opportunity for women of all cultures and educational backgrounds to come together and celebrate who they are,” Kelsey says. “The franchise is heavily focused on connecting people from all over the world, expanding traditional as well as modern culture, and creating awareness of one’s self-worth.”
Kelsey attributes this success to the love and support of her friends and family. They have been the driving force behind all of her endeavors, including the beginning of her pageant journey in 2011 where she was crowned Miss Teen London-World at the age of 18. Her experience with childhood bullying inspired her to build a platform based on self-love and acceptance, proving that it is possible to overcome any obstacle if you truly believe in yourself.
Following her reign, Kelsey went on to acquire a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from McMaster University, where she excelled at Political Science and Health Studies. She later obtained a Postgraduate degree in Public Relations from Humber College.
Fuelled by her thirst for adventure, her passion for aviation, and strong desire to travel the world, Kelsey became a flight attendant for a Middle Eastern airline and moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2015. During her five years of travel, she visited over 70 countries. These experiences have contributed to her cosmopolitan mindset, allowing her to meet new people, try new things, and visit unique places. It also inspired her to share her journey on social media, earning her the title of #avgeek and enabling her to build an online audience of over 80,000 people (@lipstickandluggage).
Kelsey has also worked with various charities and nonprofit organizations across the globe, such as the Maria Cristina Foundation (MCF) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Rumah Yatim in Jakarta, Indonesia. As part of her Miss Charm platform, she will continue to raise awareness for MCF, which is currently helping girls to pursue their dreams as Kelsey did in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
“It is important for me to use the platform I have to raise my voice against social injustices,” Kelsey says. “In a world that is constantly changing, we need more female leaders to help make a positive impact on our society. I hope my charitable commitments will make a difference and inspire others to get involved in their communities.”
Her next step is to complete her MBA in Aviation Business Management. As a content marketing specialist for a Dubai-based university and social media mentor for Intelak Hub, Kelsey is currently supporting Dubai’s leadership in aviation, travel, and tourism.
It is these experiences along with Kelsey’s strength, determination, and desire to empower others that make her an ideal candidate for the Miss Charm 2021 title.
