5 items I keep in my carry-on

One of the biggest mysteries I’ve come across in the aviation industry is why passengers bring so many bags with them onboard an aircraft. Despite the hard work of airline staff, there is always someone dragging excess luggage with them to their seats that weighs as much as a small child. While I understand the premise of avoiding certain fees and having to abide by aviation safety regulations, I often wonder what passengers bring with them that they can’t put into the cargo!

Whether I’m flying as aircrew or as a customer, I always try to pack light. Here are five items I keep in my carry-on that are essential to me when I travel:

Luggage organizers

As a frequent flyer, it’s important to stay organized. To ensure I have everything I need with me, I purchased a set of travel pouches from the Emirates official store. Each of them are labeled (makeup, chargers etc.), so I know exactly where everything is should I need to rummage through my bag anytime during my journey.

Bowers & Wilkins PX headphones

It may seem cliche to bring headphones with you when you travel, but the ones I bring with me are from Bowers & Wilkins and have three noise cancelling modes to suit your environment: office, city and flight. They also have 22 hours of battery life, so they won’t need to be charged on the aircraft no matter the flight time. Instead of playing with ear plugs, I throw them on when trying to sleep too.

Reusable water bottle

It is important to stay hydrated when in the air. To minimize my trips to the galley, I always bring a reusable water bottle with me. It also saves the use of a disposable plastic cup!

Toothbrush

When we fall asleep, the salivary glands in our mouths slow down the production of saliva, allowing for bacteria to grow. This causes bad breath, which is why I always travel with a toothbrush. This may be seen as common sense to some, but you’d be surprised by the amount of passengers that leave good hygienic practices at home when they travel!

Vichy Mineral 89

Our skin gets dry when we are in the air. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see people wearing face masks when flying to try and combat this. I personally prefer to apply Vichy Mineral 89 because it takes seconds to do so and has the same effect as a face mask without the struggle of having to wait to take it off. It fights fine lines, dark circles and wrinkles and helps me to restore moisture to my face after my flight.
