CELEBRATING ONE YEAR WITH EMIRATES
Two years ago, if you told me that I’d be where I am today in my life, I’d tell you that you’re crazy! I had never imagined that I would be able to travel the world like I have or experience the things I’ve been able to experience in my short time as Cabin Crew with Emirates. Today marks my one year anniversary with the airline, and to celebrate I wanted to share a few thoughts with you about how I got here, what I’ve accomplished so far, as well as some pictures from my favourite destinations!
1) Never give up on your dreams
If you’ve been following my journey for a while you probably already know that I applied to work as Cabin Crew for Emirates twice. The first time I was not successful. I’m open about this because I want everyone to know that dreams come true when you work hard enough!
When I was informed that my application was unsuccessful, I accepted my offer to attend Humber College in Toronto, Canada where I completed my postgraduate certificate in Public Relations. Following the completion of the program, I was working at a boutique PR agency. Oddly enough, when my contract was coming to a close, my second Emirates application was successful. It was in that moment that I realized everything happens for a reason. Acknowledging that I still had a thirst for adventure, I accepted the opportunity and moved to Dubai on November 4, 2015.
2) Find something you love to do, and keep doing it
When I began my career with Emirates, I decided to maintain an online presence. I loved digital marketing, and social media was a way for me to keep in touch with friends and family while applying what I had learned in school. I decided to rebrand my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook; becoming Lipstick and Luggage. I love to travel, but I also love to share where I’ve gone with all of you!
Since joining Emirates, I’ve gained 27,700 followers on Instagram, 10,100 followers on Facebook and nearly 2,000 followers on Twitter!
3) Live in the moment
Being a flight attendant can be difficult. The truth is, it’s not an easy job and it’s hard not to get caught up in the crazy lifestyle we have. We stay in nice hotels and travel the world, but we are also responsible for the lives of every passenger on board aside from serving chicken or beef.
Oftentimes, I find that we tend to take things for granted. When I say live in the moment, I mean be conscious and aware. I’ve visited a total of 27 countries and travelled well over 500,000 miles so far. Not many people can say that they have had the privilege of doing that!
4) Set goals for yourself
Goals give you something to strive for. They help you to put your life into action mode to achieve what it is that you are seeking to accomplish. For example, in my short career with Emirates, I have:
- Joined the Business Promotions Team and
- Collaborated with Emirates on a social media campaign
I enjoy flying, but it’s nice to be able to do something else from time to time. There are a lot of other career opportunities with the airline and I am hoping to explore those options in the future. Having set and achieved these two goals, I would like to think I am on the right track!
5) Enjoy whatever life throws at you
We all have good days and bad days. Try to make the most of whatever comes your way. It’s true that time flies, so enjoy every minute of it!
